So, these are the official rules of all time on this role play. And seriously, if you don't read these, the admin will come after you with hockey sticks and baseball bats, and believe me, you do not want us Canadians and Americans teaming up for an attack.

PLEASE NOTE:

If you have an issue with these rules, don't join. It's really that simple.
We don't have the time nor the tolerance to deal with people who think they are above the rules.

REGISTRATION
This is, obviously, the first step in becoming a character here. You can also find all instructions about registering here. If you don't do it correctly, not only will it leave you in bad shape with the admin, but it will also make registration horribly long and painful. It can be really simply, but if you don't follow the written instructions, it won't be.

  • The first step in registering is filling out the application provided on the site.
  • After you hit the submit button, an email with your answers will be sent to the admin. We will look over your submission and decide if they'd like you to join us. If you bug us about answering your email, we will not hesitate to terminate your application because of it. Just be patient, okay? No matter what, someone will answer you. It's just a matter of time.
  • If we respond saying yes, congrats! But your not done yet. The next step is to create a Twitter page for your character. Please make sure the username corresponds with your character. Such as highwarlock for Magnus Bane or even IzzyLightning for Isabelle Lightwood. Because of the way things have gone so far, you may be asked to change your username based on what your characters is. For example, our two vampire characters, Raphael and Patrick, have the letters "COTN" after their names. It stands for "Children Of The Night." It's a nice way to have uniformity of characters. If the name you choose is not up to our standards, we may ask you to change it.
  • On the other hand, if we respond saying you have not been cleared, just accept it. Please. No amount of begging will change our minds once they have been made, and pointing out things will only make us not want you to be in our family either. In the words of John Lennon, "Let it be."
  • I never felt as though this was necessary, but recently it has come to my attention that it is. It is required to have finished all three books in the series to join. This is due to the fact that because these books are fantasy and that there are so many other books/series similar, the lines blur, and we don't want that to happen. It makes for things to be very messy and confusing for everyone. For example, in one series, the vampires can go out into the sun, and in the other, they can't. If these things get tangled, see how weird that would be?
  • When creating an original character, please no Mary-Sues or Gary-Stues. Perfect people are boring. Seriously. It's no fun to see a perfect person running around the boards making things perfect. It's not enjoyable and no one wants to read it. Also, a completely flawed person isn't enjoyable either. Wouldn't that just be painful to play anyway?

You are now a part of our family! Yay! But what's next? you ask. Here's what's next:

  • Once you've created a Twitter for your character, make sure you start following everyone. You can find every character and their Twitter link here. Be careful to follow everyone, because if you don't, you can miss out on important things.
  • Start tweeting! Once you join, we will post that you have, and people will start following you. So start talkin'! You most likely won't get involved in a conversation unless you say something first. So put yourself out there! Everyone is friendly (and if they aren't, let the admin know) and we're always happy to have new people to talk to.
IN CHARACTER RULES
Now that you've started talking, there are a few more rules to follow. These are the most important out of any (but that doesn't mean you get to disregard the rest)
  • Good Grammar You've all read a book before, and therefore, you know what good grammar looks like. We are trying to professionally carry along the story that the lovely Cassandra Clare has created for us, and in doing so, we should make it look good. Right? when u type lyk this it dosnt look good nd its insanely hard 2 read. not 2 mention horribly anoiying. so just dont do it, k? thnx.
  • Professionalism This one kind of ties in with all of them. But mainly, what I mean by it, is to really stay cool about stuff. If someone does something you don't like, don't freak out and have your character kill their character's mom or something like that. That wouldn't be cool. Again, if you ever have a big problem with someone or whatever, please feel free to contact an admin and we will help you work out the kinks.
  • Stay in character If it's something important that you need to say, like you need to suddenly leave, post a message such as: "ooc: Ah! Mom needs the computer. Be back in 15." But if it's something like the fact that you just got a new scarf, get another twitter that isn't in character. Please, please, please try not to have full conversations using ooc prefixes. It makes everything look messy and is painful to have to read around.
  • Stick to the books! A big one. Obviously, we can't play our characters exactly like they are written in the books, but if we deviate too much, it makes everything confusing and painful. The boundaries of how far you can go are usually fairly easy to comprehend, but if you ever have any questions about them, let us know. If you'd like your character to do something drastic(i.e; die, have a baby, get married to another character) please contact an admin first so we can have a heads up. Really, guys, it's not that hard. You know those silly questions like, "What Would Chuck Norris Do?"? Ask yourself that about your character before having them do something? Would Magnus Bane throw out all of his makeup just to clean up? No, probably not. That's a bit sacrilegious.
  • No God-moding What this means is when you make another character do something when you shouldn't have any control over that.
Example! (If you play Magnus)

Magnus pulled the sweater away from Clary. He didn't want her to have it. As he pulled, Clary let go and fell down, tears welling in her eyes.

See?  What if the person who plays Clary didn't want Clary to cry? That'd be an awkward situation. So just stick to being your character, and not playing God.

  • PG 13 The ages of the players vary a great deal, so we can never be sure who can handle what. And even if you think you can handle something, you may not be right. It's hard to imagine some of the things we can come up with. And some people just don't want to read it! So if you feel the need for your characters to go a little bit farther, do it in DMs. It actually keeps things a bit more organized and is a little bit easier. As for violence, those boundaries stretch pretty far. Swearing, well, we try to keep it to a minimum, and if you can't handle that, you will be asked to stop. If you ever have any questions, contact the admin.
  • One Thread At A Time On a forum, you have nifty little "threads" that keep everything organized. To also help us out, please put the phrase "Men do not consume pink beverages" in the provided space on the application. On Twitter, however, we don't. So if you have more than one thread going at a time, no one can tell the difference between threads. So Magnus is at a party with Alec one second and in Idris with Luke the next? Is that even possible? (Don't answer that.) The point is, it's just plain confusing! I know it's hard to get everyone on a once, and you want to take advantage of an opportunity to RP with someone, but wouldn't it be more respectful to the first person you were RPing with to devote ALL of your attention to them? Instead of dividing it up? Which would you prefer?
  • Have fun! That's the whole point, right?

OUT OF CHARACTER RULES
  • Respect We're all good people here, and we're just trying to having a little fun. But when two people start going at it out of character, not only are their days ruined, but the days of everyone who has to read it are ruined too. Be respectful, be polite, be loving. If, for some reason, you can absolutely not work with another player, please contact an admin before trying to work it out yourself. Characters, however, can be as nasty as you'd like them to be, as long as your character would act that way, and you don't kill another character ; )
  • No talking back! Not only do you need to be respectful to the other players, but you need to be equally respectful to those of us in charge. Now, if you're not sure who's in charge, go check out our little bio's here. If either of us tell you to do something, please listen! We just want to make things good for the group as a whole. We are pretty awesome people though, and we're fun to talk to. I promise : )
  • Face Claims There's no official rule on face claims. For original characters, there's obviously almost endless possibilities. The only thing I ask is that the person you choose isn't user 323loveyxx<3girl on myspace. Models and actors work the best, and there's even a site with a lovely list of pre-made avatars here. Play by's for characters from the books should fit the description of the character. And if they don't, you will be asked to change it.
